The NQCC is pleased to announce four winning projects under a Highlight Call on Quantum Computing (QC), delivered in partnership with the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC). This Highlight Call is part of a wider Cross-cluster Proof of Concept Grant call, which aims to stimulate industry engagement and interactions with the NQCC, as well as the organisations in the Space, Energy, Health, and Digital Tech clusters associated with the Harwell and Sci-Tech Daresbury campuses. The four winning Quantum Computing projects include studies looking at:
- the innovation of key components to support hardware development; a project led by Duality Quantum Photonics Ltd entitled Integrated Photonics for Ion-Trap Quantum Computing
- the automation of control elements of the stack to support scaling; a project consortium led by QuantrolOx Ltd generating control software to automatically tune and optimise Qubits
- taking the first steps towards a publicly accessible database of the quantum complexity of modelling key materials systems; a project led by Phasecraft Ltd to support useful application development in material science
- demonstrating the potential useful application of NISQ-era machines for Machine Learning (ML); a project led by ORCA Computing Limited which will model how time domain photonic quantum computing hardware could be applied to image recognition problems
